8 Disconcerting Events of the Past Year that Caught Me by Surprise

As 2020 turns into 2021 here are 8 events that caught me by surprise. This post is mostly because I want a record of the crazy, as we’re prone to forget yesterday before today has ended.

1. The quick implementation of authoritarian approaches (masking, quarantines, lockdowns, curfews)

2. The public gleefully going along with authoritarianism and even quickly forming a religion around it

3. There were Toilet Paper, flour, and meat shortages

4. Searching “Rittenhouse” on Facebook and literally no results being returned

5. Nearly 40 million guns sold in USA in 2020! (source)

6. Bitcoin ascended to just over $40k USD in early 2021

7. The Protests at the US Capitol and that people made it into the building

8. Parler being quickly booted off Amazon AWS and the Apple App store
